When I entered perimenopause, it hit me like a bus! My life changed dramatically! I had also gone through a recent trauma and after numerous Drs appointments and being referred to various specialists (for everything other than perimenopause), I did my own research to try to get to the bottom of all of my symptoms: Extreme fatigue, insomnia, shortness of breath, palpitations, blood pressure issues, low mood…. and many more!
At aged 40, I was peri-menopausal, and I noticed a big change both physically and mentally.
After 6 years of various referrals, I suggested to the the healthcare professionals that I was perimenopausal, this is when things changed for the better, and I finally started HRT.
Using my knowledge and experience of over 14 years in the health and fitness industry, I thought about what changes were happening to my body during perimenopause and what I needed to do to address them.
I use a holistic approach to health and wellbeing to manage uncomfortable symptoms for many. Changes to nutrition, mental health – via stress reduction and better sleep – and exercise can all work to control and ease the symptoms many women experience at this time.
Many women shy away from resistance training at this stage of their lives, but it’s more important than ever that women build, or maintain, muscle mass. Along with good nutrition habits, mobility and flexibility work, there is so much that can be done to make the menopause a positive time of life!
